First Reading
Romans 15: 1-3
We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please
ourselves. Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification. For
even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that
reproached thee fell on me. For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written
for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have
hope. Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward
another according to Christ Jesus: That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify
God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Wherefore receive ye one another,
as Christ also received us to the glory of God. Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister
of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers:
And that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will
confess to thee among the Gentiles, and sing unto thy name. And again he saith,
Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people. And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; and laud
him, all ye people. And again, Esaias saith, There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that
shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust. Now the God of hope
fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the
power of the Holy Ghost.
Second Reading
John 4: 14-21
But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water
that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. The
woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to
draw. Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither. The woman answered
and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:
For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in
that saidst thou truly. The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.
Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place
where men ought to worship. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour
cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.
Gospel
Matthew 2: 19-23
But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream
to Joseph in Egypt, Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into
the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life. And he arose,
and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel. But when he
heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid
to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into
the parts of Galilee: And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be
fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.
